'The Nurturing Center's goal is to ensure that children are treated with

respect and live in safety with secure, healthy relationships.'

The health, productivity and creativity of any society are the direct result of how the children of that society are treated.” -Dr. Bruce Perry, M.D., PhD

Effective 4-15-08

Safe Havens services have been temporarily

suspended until additional funding can be secured.

What is Safe Havens?
Safe Havens creates a comfortable place for children and parents to visit when one parent may be absent from the child’s life. Children benefit from consistent, healthy contact with their parent and Safe Havens’ goal is to provide the opportunity for visitations in a completely safe, supportive environment.

“The Nurturing Center helped us get through a really tough time through Safe Havens.  Through it all, even though it was scary, I saw hope.  The more positive feedback I heard, the more comfortable I felt.  They encouraged me that our family would make it.”

                                                                             Jamie W.

Safe Havens staff is trained in understanding the impact of domestic violence on primary and secondary victims. Our top priority is to maintain a safe environment where children may further their relationship with the visiting parent. We consider ourselves child advocates with policies that focus on the developmental needs of the child. Our guiding principles spell out the specific criteria for visits, which typically last one hour in length once a week. The visits take place on site at the Safe Havens facility and are recorded and strictly observed by the monitor. We endeavor to treat all parties with respect and dignity, the foundation of all the Nurturing Center programs.

“The Nurturing Center helped me take a step in the right direction so I could be able to see my boys while a restraining order was in place.  Safe Havens is a very safe place for my boys and for me.  I didn’t feel supervised; really, it just felt like a really safe place.”

                                                                             Sersch W.
